— About the Practice

A licensed professional engineering firm built on accountability, judgment, and code.

RMC Engineering, PLLC is a boutique consulting engineering practice serving the Washington, DC metro area and clients nationwide. We provide MEP, fire protection, telecommunications, electronic security, and low-voltage design.

— 01 · What Makes Us Different

A working practice, not a proposal name.

Most engineering firms grow by adding project managers between the Engineer of record and the person doing the actual design work. That structure can work for very large projects. For everything else, it dilutes accountability.

RMC Engineering was structured differently. The engineer stamping the drawings is the engineer reviewing every calculation, drawing set, submittal, and RFI response. You get direct access to the PE — not a client-facing account manager relaying questions back to a design team.

That structure limits our capacity. It's a deliberate trade-off. We take on projects where deep engineering judgment matters more than throughput.

— 02 · Our Approach
How we work

Four principles that shape every project.

01

Code compliance is the floor, not the ceiling.

Every design is reviewed against the applicable code year — NEC, ASHRAE, NFPA, TIA, IBC, IPC, IMC — with meeting the code treated as the minimum. Our work aims for engineering judgment that anticipates operational reality, not just permit approval.

02

The stamp is an accountability structure.

A PE stamp is a legal and professional commitment. When our stamp appears on a drawing set, it means the engineer of record has personally reviewed the design — not signed off on someone else's work. That's the standard, and it doesn't scale by adding headcount.

03

Coordination is engineering, not paperwork.

Multi-discipline coordination — where mechanical meets electrical meets structural meets fire protection — is where most projects fail. We integrate the disciplines upfront rather than layering them on separately, catching conflicts in the design phase where they're still cheap to resolve.

04

Design through commissioning.

Our engagement doesn't end at 100% CDs. We stay involved through construction administration — submittal review, RFI response, site observation, and commissioning support — because the design is only as good as the installation that follows it.
